Das ‚intelligente‘ Web : Entwicklung kontextadaptiver Webanwendungen
Aus der unübersichtlichen Flut an Informationen im Internet die für den einzelnen Nutzer relevanten herauszufiltern ist ein zentrales Desiderat an Webanwendungen. An der Universität Duisburg-Essen werden Systeme entwickelt, die den Nutzer durch automatische Anpassung an seine Ziele optimal unterstützen.
As a consequence of increasing Internet capabilities and capacities, as well as a rising amount of information and services provided on the Web, methods and mechanisms are required to provide users with that information and those services which are relevant to the user’s current context of system use. This system adaptation can occur regarding several aspects of a Web application. Content-adaptation can be used, for example, for information search and filtering. Adapting navigation and dialog structures can assist users in finding the desired information in a more efficient way. The graphical representation can be adapted, for example, to device requirements or the user profile. The effectiveness of adaptation will depend on the degree to which users perceive the adaptation as being useful for a specific situation of system usage, therefore the system must have knowledge of this context. Automated adaptation can occur according to various sorts of context information. We present an approach integrating context-engineering mechanisms within the engineering process of Web applications. An architecture and a framework for context-adaptive Web applications is shown, which enables the usage of the context-engineering artefacts for context-adaption in the runtime application, at varying application levels. The use of this framework for application development is illustrated.
