This introduction to the volume deals in general with media-related conditions and constraints of today’s online-lexicography. Chances as well as problems and the challenges in this field are described, be they technical, cultural or economic. The authors outline the current achievements and point to what has not yet been accomplished. The users’ perspective as well as the case of multilingual dictionaries are explicitly addressed. All in all, the contributions to this volume highlight some special focuses – the impact of corpus linguistics on lexicography, especially on online-lexicography, and the predominant interest in structures of access to information. Therefore some further develop-ments have to be pointed out in order to emphasize their relevance for the quality of dictionaries. Finally, the contributions to the volume are characterized, and they are arranged in a reasonable structure.
