AB The article is about the context of our research project “Unveiling Orientalism: Ambiguity in British Discourse on Travel of the Long Eighteenth Century.” In it, we explore different facets of ambiguity and Orientalism in connection with Horace Walpole’s Strawberry Hill. While the house and garden reflect Walpole’s taste for the Gothic and the Oriental, respectively, the ‘curiosities’ and ‘uniquities’ collected, categorised, described and displayed in Walpole’s Gothic folly, reflect the author’s taste for ambiguity.
