Breaking the Wall of Deaf Learners’ Mathematics Potential

Research shows how sign language influences the way Deaf learners’ knowledge is structured. Still, math instruction and material rarely consider their differences, but only try to overcome disabilities. Building on diverse fields of research, we design and evaluate a digital learning opportunity that seeks to foster fruitful signed mathematical discourse by grounding it in action as embodied experience. SignEd|Math leverages the potential of using sign languages as a resource for mathematics learning and instruction of Deaf students while enhancing our knowledge about learning itself.
