  abstract = 	{Since the mid‐1990s, a debate about ``Zivile Konfliktbearbeitung'' (civilian
conflict management) has emerged within German politics and academia. It
centres on concepts, effects and actors of civilian conflict management. Consequently,
the two articles of the first section of this volume focus on the history
of the concept (Weller) and on those concepts applied in peace‐oriented development
aid (Kirschner). The second section deals with the question how allegedly
plausible assessments of the effects of civilian conflict management measures
come about (K{\"o}rppen) and how these effects can be measured scientifically
(Quack). The authors of the third section focus on different actors of civilian
conflict management, like ``religion‐based'' actors (Weingardt), business corporations
(Engert) or development actors in civil‐military co‐operation (Hofmann).
The volume concludes with an outlook concerning areas of further research (Weller).},
